Kitegirl Chile

I started kiting in 2014 with 37 years old, and a few months later I participated on my first tournament, and won… ha ha ha no, I’m kidding. I almost drowned and had to be rescued from the water. Nevertheless, the event made me want to try it again, but this time more prepared. At that time there were few women in Chile who practiced kitesurfing, and even fewer women who dared to compete. Championships focused mainly on the male category, unequal prizes on the podium alluding to the same reason, women were very few. Motivated to see the female’s Kitesurf community grow, I got inspired to create an event to unite us to walk along this path to enhance our abilities, and this is how Kitegirl Day was born. Kitegirl Day is an annual event, which for 6 years has managed to motivate and bring together our female kitesurfing community, and I am proud to say that it has initiated a large number of women in the competition, achieving today a great female representation in our national championship, and due to this, now we can proudly say that in Chile we have equal prizes for man and women in our national competition.

From a very early age, I have competed in all the sports that I have practiced, and I know what it means to lose, I’ve lost way more than I’ve won. In Track and Field at school, I used to be the reserve in everything, waiting for the starter not to arrive to have the opportunity to compete. I was one of the smallest in the category, I wasn't too tall and I ran slow... but there I was, the first one to arrive at the stadium, I used to do all the warm-ups with the starting team, and even though it wasn't my turn to compete, I enjoyed that moment, the community spirit, belonging to the team, the nervousness and adrenaline before the competition, and when it was my turn to compete I was the happiest person on the planet.
